BIO:

Jay N. Davis is a Louisiana artist renowned for his exquisitely detailed paintings and drawings that capture the rhythm and color of Louisiana’s lush natural beauty.  Before becoming a full-time artist, Mr. Davis worked for over a decade as a lead character animator for Walt Disney in Burbank, California where he honed his artistic skill depicting the illusion of movement. During his career as an animator and artist, he lived and worked in various parts of the world, including London, England, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Austin, Texas. While there, he studied and was inspired by works of English cartoonist Gerald Scarfe, French-American artist John Audubon, and German artist Hans Bellmer.  Inspired by Louisiana’s mysterious bayous, dense forests, and vast array of flora and fauna, he eventually returned home where he uses pencil and paint to bring to life the natural world with his vibrant and imaginative pieces of art.

STATEMENT:

As an artist, my work is deeply influenced by the beauty and complexity of the natural world. I find inspiration in the subtle shapes of clouds, the gnarled branches of trees, the peacefulness of landscapes, and the vibrancy of creatures that inhabit our world. For me, the curves, rhythms, and patterns found in nature are visually thrilling and often serve as the catalyst for a new painting or drawing. When creating a piece, I prioritize strong composition, silhouette, and contrast to effectively convey the essence of nature in my art.
